A city becomes a metropolis – this can summarize Zurich’s architectural development in the last decade. Long dominated by an atmosphere of smallness, the appearance of Switzerland’s largest city has changed considerably in the past few years.
Contemporary buildings manifest an especially strong connection between urbanism and nature. The architecture in the inner city simultaneously brought on a revitalization and redevelopment of abandoned industrial areas to create attractive, vivacious quarters. This has produced a diverse and lively landscape that is able to compete with European metropolises. The present volume presents 115 projects by creative architects using texts, color photos, layouts and plans.
